Météores

The two audiovisual devices of the Météores installation draw inspiration from the cosmos and geology in order to probe space and time as well as physical and digital materiality. Tablelands in Suspension depicts the rocks of the   Earth’s mantle digitised in 3D by photogrammetry. Presented on a suspended tablet, they are sensitive to the slightest movements of the device and to handling by the public. Orbiting Bauxite was created during a stay in Saguenay, a region of Quebec where the aluminium industry is a major economic driver. Here, the bauxite imported worldwide is turned into aluminium then exported to manufacture products, whereas millions of tons of bauxite residues remain in the region. The main ore making up the mobile device is displayed on its screen and changes state according to its rotation speed. These works offer new perspectives on the evolution of the Earth, its substance and the processes that affect it such as the erosion, extraction and transformation of the mineral in the context of globalisation.
